Learn the key steps and trade-offs for freight shipping a 7-foot coin operated pool table, from choosing a carrier to preparing the table for transit.

Quick answer

For a 7-foot coin operated pool table, use a freight carrier that offers liftgate and inside delivery, and prepare the table by securing moving parts and protecting the slate.

Why freight shipping is the right choice

A 7-foot coin operated pool table is a heavy, commercial-grade item that cannot go through standard parcel carriers. Freight shipping is the only safe and practical method for moving it across distances.

Freight carriers provide the equipment and labor needed to handle oversized, heavy items, reducing the risk of damage compared to traditional parcel services.

Delivery options and trade-offs

Freight shipping offers several delivery options, each with different levels of service and cost. Curbside delivery is the most affordable but requires you to move the table from the curb to your location. Liftgate delivery adds a hydraulic lift to lower the table to ground level, which is essential if you don't have a loading dock. Inside delivery includes moving the table into your building, but it typically excludes stairs and final placement.

Consider your venue's access and your own capabilities when choosing a delivery option. If you have a loading dock, you can save money by skipping the liftgate. If you need the table placed in a specific room, inside delivery is worth the extra cost.

Preparing the table for transit

Before shipping, the table must be properly prepared to prevent damage. This includes securing the coin mechanism, locking the legs, and protecting the slate. Many shippers require the table to be crated or palletized to ensure safe handling.

Check with your carrier for specific packaging requirements. Some carriers offer crating services for an additional fee, which can be worth it for a high-value item like a coin operated pool table.

Step-by-step shipping process

Measure and weigh the table: Get the exact dimensions and weight of the table, including packaging. This information is required for freight quotes and ensures you book the right service. Double-check your measurements to avoid extra fees or service mismatches.
Choose a freight carrier and delivery option: Select a carrier that specializes in heavy items and decide on the delivery option that matches your access and budget: curbside, liftgate, or inside delivery. If you have a loading dock, you can skip the liftgate and save money.
Prepare the table for shipping: Secure the coin mechanism, lock the legs, and protect the slate. If the table is not already crated, consider having it professionally crated or palletized. Confirm with the carrier that your packaging meets their requirements.
Schedule the pickup and delivery: Book the pickup and provide clear delivery instructions, including any access limitations. Make sure someone is available at the delivery location to receive the table. Have a plan for moving the table from the delivery point to its final location.
Inspect upon delivery: Before signing for the shipment, inspect the packaging and the table for any visible damage. Note any issues on the delivery receipt and take photos as evidence. Never sign for a damaged shipment without documenting it first.
