Learn how 14-foot shuffleboard tables are shipped via freight, what drives delivery costs, and how to prepare for delivery with clear decision rules.
Quick Answer
A 14-foot shuffleboard table ships via freight, not standard parcel, and delivery costs depend on access, packaging, and the carrier's service level. Choose a table with a two-piece board for easier handling and lower risk.
Why Freight Shipping Is the Only Practical Option
A 14-foot shuffleboard table is far too large and heavy for standard parcel carriers like UPS or FedEx. It must travel on a freight truck, which changes how delivery is scheduled and how you receive the table.
Freight shipments are typically curbside or liftgate deliveries. That means the driver brings the pallet to your driveway or curb, but not inside your home. Plan for that before the truck arrives.
What Drives the Delivery Cost
Delivery cost is not a flat number. It scales with distance, the weight and dimensions of the crate, and the level of service you choose—such as liftgate or inside delivery.
The table's construction also matters. A solid hardwood playfield adds weight, which increases freight charges. A two-piece board can reduce the per-piece size and make the shipment easier to handle.
Access is a major factor. If your driveway is narrow or the delivery point is not truck-accessible, you may need a liftgate or a smaller truck, both of which add cost.
How to Prepare for Delivery Day
Before the table arrives, clear a path from the delivery point to the room where it will go. Measure doorways, hallways, and stairways to confirm the table can pass through.
For a 14-foot table, the playfield is 13 feet long (one foot less than the overall length). Confirm that your room can accommodate that length with room to play.
If you ordered a two-piece board, moving each piece separately is easier than moving a single 14-foot slab. Still, you'll need at least two strong people and proper moving straps.
Decision Rules for Shipping a 14-Foot Table
- Choose freight over parcel: Always select freight shipping for a 14-foot table. Standard parcel carriers cannot handle the size and weight, and attempting it risks damage or refusal.
- Compare liftgate vs. curbside: If you have a loading dock or a low truck bed, curbside delivery is cheaper. If the driver cannot lower the table to ground level, you need a liftgate—expect a higher fee. Ask the carrier if a liftgate is included in the quoted price.
- Plan for inside delivery: Most freight quotes are curbside only. If you need the driver to bring the table into your garage or first-floor room, request inside delivery and confirm the extra cost.
- Measure access points: Measure doorways, hallways, and stairways before ordering. If the table cannot fit, you may need to remove doors or use a different route—do this before delivery day. Create a clear path and have moving straps ready.
- Consider a two-piece board: A two-piece board splits the playfield into smaller sections, making the shipment easier to handle and reducing the chance of damage. It also simplifies moving the table into your home. If you have tight corners or stairs, a two-piece board is the safer choice.
